Are these of any value, or just the usual costume jewelry type item? Found another ring today, but it was clearly cheapo

Been working a school site....an elementary school built in the 40's and recently razed. Plenty of clad, and a few wheats. Gotta be a few silvers down there. Maybe more rings too.

dont thinks so and if they are worth anything its not much. just costume i think. Still the ring you found is a ring, no matter what :hello2:

Hello again, :hello:

I think it's plated but :icon_scratch: I just want to make sure.... :headbang: Any markings on the inside, did you try and clean it? :dontknow: Look for a mark some marks can be very faint because of wear. See if it cleans up with toothpaste :icon_thumleft: If the silver color comes back when cleaning and you don't see any flaking i'd say its sterling. I don't really see anyone putting such a nice Turquoise setting in a plated item but I guess anythings possible. It would be worth checking into. :notworthy:

Keep @ It and HH !! :D ;D

That ring is cool..When i saw it , it reminded of a ring my dad has..and i believe his was Stainless Steel..But Good Find

I did the toothpaste cleaning. While it is cleaner, it did not shine up like silver. Also, no markings on inside.

I quite like it though, even if not silver.

Hi there BigCreekDad and good work on the find! Even if it is not silver it is still nice finding a ring of any kind, heck of a lot rarer then clad! as far as that ring they must have made a blank load of that one, I have or had one just like it, although if I remember right mine was marked 925. Also if memory serves they used Turquoise chips for the blue and I think Correl for the red, then some kind of resin to hold it in, I will see if I can find mine and get a pic for you, HH!

Hey guys I am not sure on the silver or not silver...but I am fairly sure that it is not a real turquoise stone but rather white PVC shavings in colored resin. I have something saved on this and it shows the process I looked and couldn't find it but will keep looking. Has anybody else heard of this process ?

Hi again BigCreekDad, finally got around to digging out my bling and found this, does it look familiar? mine does say "Sterling" on the inside, hope this helps.

I've seen these a lot. Some are real silver. Some are 'old' silver with a high composite content. A couple things.. try touching it with a magnet. If it has any iron in it the magnet will cling. OR try touching it with the tip of your tongue. It looks like it has cooper or maybe brass. It will taste like a penny if that is the case.

Sometimes students of silversmithing will use cheaper metals while they are learning. You may have one of those student rings.
