Interesting find, congrats! After the great flood a dove was sent out in hopes of land appearing somewhere. Genesis 8:11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.
Don,t know. It being cast in multiple pieces(?) may help date. Definitely old. A historic record of a nearby foundry may give an idea. Casting mold would seem to have been hand carved from looking at your pic. Not unusual I suppose but foundry methods studying might give more insight. Did not find any such pieces in a brief search. Could have been mass produced or ordered from a casting place as a gift from a parishioner.Maybe even an owner of such a place. Fun mysteries turn up detecting. A wild guess is its pre civil war at least. Definitely interesting and could date near church's founding even. The church dates back to the late 1700s, do you think it's that old?
Cool. I believe you have found the fabled Maltese Falcon, worth millions. It's time to retire, move to Florida and drive slow in the left lane with your right blinker left on. Ahhh- the good life awaits you! Great find~
