Trying to find out more about this Cameo...Maybe it's an older one..

I recently found this Cameo broach and have been told by a number of people that it appears to be an older one. Maybe it is...maybe it isn't. I'm really not sure. As I stated above a nuber of people have said that it appears to be an older one. Some have said that maybe I should take it to a jeweler and see what they can tell me about it. It's a rather interesting find to me but I'm seeming to have some trouble tracking down anything about it as to possible age, value, or anything else about it for that matter. For some reason it seems like the cameos that have a right facing profile are more common or something as I seem to have no problem finding them but the laft facing profiles seem to be a little harder to try and track down or maybe I should say that I just haven't been able to find this one.

This Cameo is a left facing profile and is pictured with 2 dimes and 2 pennies for sizing. I can try to get better pics and am working on different lighting options to get better pics of the Cameo.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone may have any clue as to age, origin, maybe even value although I suspect the value may be very little I could be wrong.

Who knows...maybe it would be worth my time to have it repaired.

Thanks in advance for any info about this item.

congrats on a beautiful cameo.. flip that baby over so I can see the pin part and does it have a swivel pendant on the top as well..that was common to have both, pin and pendant parts attached.. also, look at the back of the cameo, hold it up to a bright light, tilt it back n forth so you can see if possibly there is any signature or initials on the back, make sure you look real real good on the back for this, as it was common for the carver to put at least his initials on the back..it may look like chicken scratch to ya but if you do see it..then you do have yourself a signed cameo...also while looking under the light at it..see if you see any hairline cracks in the cameo itself.. I cannot tell you too much as I havent seen the back of the cameo yet.. but it appears old.. most cameos were carved out of shells.. I really would love to see the back of it..the pin clasp also tells the approx age too.

I'll be the first to admit that I know next to nothing about Cameos but I'm learning quite a bit. It looks interesting to me but when I flip it over and look at the back I don't really see much of anything at all. Doesn't look like much to me on the back but then again I've never really looked very close at this sort of thing before. Here's a few more pics.

It's a splendid cameo no matter what the history. Monty

Yes it is. It has gotten many comments I was actually a little suprised at the condition that it seemed to be in. It's still in pretty good shape it would seem.

Setting looks Victorian to me, but I'm no authority. Not what you want to hear, I'm sure.
