That sure is an interesting piece! How does the inside look? Is there any glaze on it?

Thanks .. Here is a photo of the inside .. There is no evidence of glaze.. just raw clay.

Not sure it helps much but its clearly coil made & not wheel spun.

Folk Art, or Imitation Folk Art?

What era was the other stuff that was dug with it?

It came out of a bottle dump, with finds ranging from the late 1800's on up to the 1930s .

My guess is Folk Art--and it could be worth some money, even broken. Any sign of the missing piece?

You should e-mail a photo to crockerfarm Stoneware Auction. They could probably tell you more about it. Send a good quality photo attached to the email. Photo of the inside, front, back, and bottom--with a ruler for scale.

Just ask them if they might know more about the piece. Tell them which county and state you dug it in. They are real nice folks, and they offer free evaluations that are right on.

Regards,

Buckles

No problem. They're the ones who handled the crock I dug that made the banner. :)

Creskol, this is a most interesting find! Judging by the photos, it looks authentic, and not a repro. It has somewhat of a primitive Pennsylvania Dutch look as well as a Native American Indian look.Hopefully you can go back and try to find the missing piece. I'm interested in hearing what the crockerfarm people say. Breezie

Nice, but what does it have to do with a 100 year old pot dug in Virginia?
