Hi I'm have this large letter opener I think it made of ivory but not 100% sure. It has some marks on it I thing are English marks but again not sure. The 1st is lion passant facing left, 2nd leopards head without crown,3rd capital T (looks like its inside a shield). There are also letters to the left of the markings. Looks like L&G I believe these are the makers marks. Any help would be awesome.

Leopards head without crown London mark from 1822 to present, passant lion means sterling .925, the letter T is the date code (Shield shape and letter font will determine when), look at it with a magnifying glass and compare to the table on this site it should be the table at the top right of the link. Manufacturer can be compared to the list on the same page they are below the table.

From the first two close ups, it does appear to be ivory. I would have to examine the entire object to be sure. You can find out how to easily identify ivory at ivory4u.com. Whatever you do, never attempt the "hot pin" test on any ivory. It may discolor the ivory; and if it is celluloid instead of ivory, you will damage a nice antique.

It is a Victorian era pager turner, not a letter opener.
