Not far from where I found the carriage wheels, This barbed wire is sticking out of the center of these trees. I am guessing that the wire was attached to the trees when they were young and the tree grew around it. The trees are about 1 foot in diameter. Anybody have any idea about how old this site may be?

OK I have a general idea now. Thanks for the help! :icon_pirat:

well buy the look of the wire I would date it to be 1950 or newer I live on a ranch that dates back to the 1850s and have wire from then to now and the early wire did not have the twisted barbs on them

How do you explain the carriage wheels I found. See other "What is it" today.

In Florida, a Live Oak can grow around a fence wire and look like that in 20 years. I have fence already inside oaks here in 3 years, if I dont watch it.

Old barbed wire is collectible and you may be able to date it, if old.

Yup resembles modern barbed wire. Maybe the years of global warming took its toll on that tree and it went emo.

That does not mean that there was not something there prior to the wire I just know that the wire is not that old :icon_thumleft:

The tree does not look that old. It looks like that the wire may have been attached to the tree at some point. I know that some farmers years ago would attach thier fencing to straight trees with the ideal of coming back later and cutting the tree just above the fence line. The barb pattern was used as ealy as the late 1870s. Earlier patterns had metal cut outs wired in. My guess would say that the fence was like one person already said from the 1950 or 60s.
