My friends mother brought her as a child to mine these... Mother has passed on, and friend can't remember where she went. We are in Vermont but this doesn't resemble to Grossular around here, or the garnets of Eden... Best match I found is possibly Hessonite Garnet in Quebec? However a lot of the garnets have striations and appear almost like quartz. Here is a larger specimen. I can't post some.of the smaller crystals too... Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Although P.Allen might be exactly right...
The What-Is-It? forum contains a lot of experts on man-made objects. The best place to get "concensus" on your stone's identification is in TreasureNet's "Rocks/Gems" forum, where the professional Mineralogists and rock-hounds hang out.
