trying to date White Plains Police button by Smith Gray

have tracked the button down to White Plains NY but can't fix date for maker, Smith Gray, New York.

any help will be greatly appreciated!

If I'm extracting the right info from this article then it could only date from 1878-1914: http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/reports/smith_gray_bldg.pdf

nhbenz, this may be the same as yours as it mainly deals with their buildings. They do not appear to make buttons but have their name on them. Not uncommon for cloths manufactures to do that.

Most likely made for Smith Gray & Co by Scoville, Waterbury CT(same maker of most Civil War buttons). From what I've read, Edward Smith, one of the founders of the company came from Connecticut. I found an old Hartford CT police button on eBay with the same back mark.
