Re: Try ID'ing this .......

close think opium or hash instead . -- it was very popular in the old days and legal to buy .--- pre 1900 opium / hash was very popular amoung so called "respectible" women -- women could get "drugs" at the druggist (respectible women NEVER went into a bar only low life hooker type women did that)-- men when to the bar to drink -- back in the old days --men were drunks and women dope feinds. looks to me there is a carbertor type hole there in the side --it was covered with the finger--- you sucked on the end of the pipe then removed your finger-- causing a draft to help it burn the goods being smoked --yep you got an old smokers pipe. could be used from opuim or hash to tabbaco (smoking tabbaco was tabboo for for women too back then) with the small size (easy to hide) and the flowery decoration - a females pipe --- very nice find

I was only kidding about the pipe thing, the "bowl" end is threaded, the stem end is unthreaded.

the threaded screw in type larger bowl part is missing -- and no I'm not kidding -- its a old 1800's era dope pipe --opuim most likely -- the hole on the side is known as a "carberator" hole by modern stoners --

Some type of Bosun's pipe/boatswain's whistle? Can you get a whistle out of it by blowing and partially covering the hole?

Possibly part of an ornate atomizer?

Part of a gaslight? Gas line was threaded to one end and the burner just sat inside the other. Just a guess. Monty

If indeed it is a pipe, I have never seen one like it nor can I find one like it.
A friend of mine collect's vintage pipes and he too says "Never seen one like that, but it is very neat. Probabley used for opium." :o He knows alot more than I do about them.
Either way, very interesting find...an good luck on a real ID

Re: Try ID'ing this .......

My guess it's a perfume atomizer, like PDK said. The large, threaded part screwed onto the bottle, the little hole on one side of the tube was for the bellows (the squeezie thing), and the bulbous end has a fine hole in it where the perfume sprays out.

Old sneak a toke :tongue3:
I think you would get a good bid on e-bay for it.
Interesting piece :o

Interesting find. It certainly looks like it could function as a pipe, but the perfume atomizer seems more logical with its ornate appearance.

Shoot, I believe Ivan. It's a pipe. Filler' up with some Baccy and take a few tugs then blow. If you're coffin" It's a pipe if it whistles Charlies' right.

Re: Try ID'ing this .......

a bosun's pipe would not need or have a threaded end -- old sea salt --Ivan

but as PBK says a purfume atomizer (sprayer) is highly possible also -- the bellows ( rubber squeeze bulb) attached to the side and a screw top bottle held the purfume.

I say -- look very closely at the side piece and inside the treaded end -- if it seems like its a neck to hold the bellowsand thus seal the bellows to pump the purfume out -- purfume --if not then I still say opiumdope pipe --drugs are nothing new sadly.

a womens sneak a tote -- small and easily hidden --for "hidden" use.

Ah. Missed the threaded part. Atomizer sounds better - rubber bulb or "thumb pump" fitting the little trumpet on the non-decorative side.

Only one thing left to do.
Send it here and I will see if smoke comes out or in...
BUT I won't inhale.......(trust me)

Re: Try ID'ing this .......

The object appears to be brass. That side object attached to the coil is not a carbureator. It is not attached to the pipe so air can blow through it. It does however look as though some kind of snap/button or something may have been attached to it in that spot. There is an expansion clip inside the rim of it. Here's a close up...

Re: Try ID'ing this .......

ok no hole for a squeeze bulb so atomizer is out --and thus no carberator hole either --- (it still could could be a pipe however -- just one that you that you "suck on" to smoke)- with the screw on bowl missing. snap on type clip to a chain or other object for "hiding" it away till your "in private"
