Does anyone have an idea of how old this trunk may be and what type of trunk it would be described as such as "steamer" ? What is the round purple part for on the inside? The purple circle seems to be some sort of velvet. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

The trunk you have I believe dates to 1890-1910. . The ornate steamer (flat top) trunk in picture #1 made by Rauchbach & Goldsmith dates to 1910 and is somewhat similar to yours. Hopefully others can weigh in also.. Thanks for sharing.

The purple velvet circle of your trunk was used for jewelry storage. Brooches, pins, tie tacks, hat pins, etc. could be pinned to the velvet area.
Beautiful trunk :)
