pretty cool, i bet it`ll look nice all cleaned up

Did you clean it up and find out what year? I just found this horse in Raleigh, NC amongst some broken penny dolls and marbles. Cleaning it up with electrolysis.

That's actually in great shape. Most times those iron toys are so rusted you can't see good details...and these types of finds are always awesome.

Excellent relic recovery! :occasion14:

I cannot wait to see it when cleaned up!

I can see why it is one of your favorites, That IS an awesome find.
Old toy finds are very rare to dig. I love it, and it would be my favorite too.
Yes as mentioned it's not badly corroded.
I'm going to say banner.
By the way that is a great looking spot.

Very cool. My guess from watching American Pickers would be the latter part of the19th century. I bet that is going to clean up amazingly!

Just so you know I did vote, and I would be thrilled to find that (or similar old cast iron toy) under my coil.

Excellent recovery, an item like that would be one of my showpiece finds to display!!! Hope it cleans up well and look forward to those pics and if any data on age of it.
Don

I just realized that this thread is from 2013. So can we see it in a cleaned up pic?

I will post some new pics in a few days, thanks for all the interest in this cool find----tom

I'm surprised it didn't get more attention when I posted it almost 4 yrs ago, thanks again --tom

Love that piece! You're experienced, what method do you prefer for cleaning/removing rust? Ever used apple cider vinegar? If I'd found that piece, that is the method I'd use on this. Nice find!!
