Got out with the "Ity-Bity California Sluice" today. It works great! It beat my expectations and actually found a fair bit of gold. You don't necessarily have to screen your material. I ran about 20 shovels with my small relic shovel, and it pushed out some rocks as big as 1". It would come in handy testing areas for gold, quickly. And, it really surprised me.
