Tree Roots a problem for anyone??

The mineral content of some roots can set off detectors, especially in high iron soils.

I keep one of these handy.

Not false signals But yes,
there seems to be an abundance of Good signals under & maybe in some large roots.
I refuse to believe they are False signals though.
but instead are the rarest of rare coins, just out of reach :laughing7:

see if you would have taken DigginDownUnder 's Ax to it & chopped it in two,
it would have been a once Mint 19/16 D :laughing7:

or is that just my luck ?

I've used a few detectors that would sound off if you bumped a root. Annoying but something you can live with.

yes My old whites would make noise on bumps

I will dig around the roots and under them but I never cut them or saw them off. I would hate to kill an old tree or even a portion of one. I cut the root of a tree to put a fence post in once and the tree died two years later.

I have found some wheat pennies and a cpl of nickels from the 50's but not lucky enough to find any old silver or anything else around roots.

Some of the best finds our around those roots. Go slow as many coins are on edge, easily missed by most. If your interested in finding old tree locations your ground balance read out can locate those sites for you.

The only time I have a problem with tree roots is when the cover the coin I am after!

I have abandoned digs with tree roots because I was in a park and did'nt want to do a big dig and leave a mess. Not to mention the park employees wouldn't be to happy with the mess it left. I guess I could dig them and just blame it on a gopher!
