I've been doing the CRH thing for about a year with mixed results similar to the many posts that are here in the forums. I am looking for guesses on value for the 2 coins in the picture. One is a clad error from 2010; the other is a bicentennial that is either a mint error or the product of someone who has too much time on their hands. Any and all feedback is welcomed. A 2010 error coin would have to have value, since 2010 is a low-mintage year. So obviously, an error coin in a low-mintage year would be rare.

Thanks Silverslug; I didn't know about the low mintage year thing. I guess I'll try a couple of local coin shops first and then put it on ebay to cut out the middle man "shake down".

After 2001, they only minted about 2.5 million halves per year. The US mint has never put any halves into circulation since 2001. They just sold them to collectors for a premium. I suppose that those collectors kept a few and dumped the rest into circulation. Typically when I search a box of halves I come across a few post 2001 halves. 2001 halves are out there by the gazillions--probably two or three in almost every single roll. Not so with the post 2001 dates. I have all the post 2001 halves, except for the 2013-D, but it took me many, many boxes to find them. I wouldn't quite call them rare, but with an error half from those years, you probably have something valuable. You might ask your local coin shop what it's worth, then you can probably get double that on e-bay.

The 1976 is just a very worn coin. Curious as to what exactly you think is the "error" on the 2010?

The 2010 is missing its entire obverse nickel layer.

Im really not seeing what you are apparently. The strike looks too good for anything to be missing. Have you weighed the coin and compared the weight to another half?

The error, as I call it weighs 9.35 grams; A 2011d weighs 11.31 grams. I guess I'll have to work on a little better camera for these pic's in the future. In person you can see it's not a gold plated, just plain copper on the obverse with the zinc on the back sideView attachment 1089492

It's a very unusual coin. It has to be valuable.

Great boxes this week, and an unusually high number of 90%ers. The Franklins, especially, are really nice finds.
