Treasure net members final choice kid's first detector!

I put up a post last week asking the members to vote on what detector to get my son for his 13th birthday.
You have picked the Minelab XTerra 305 out of many great models to choose from. I fell every one has spoken with all the Pm's and post. And We thank you!
So Monday I am going to make the purchase.
I am also going to get him a lesche digging tool & pouches
I am wondering what headphone's I should get also. Send me a pm or a post to help me make the right choice on that.
Thanks Again!

Just get him a set from Walmart. Seriously. For 20 bucks you can get a decent pair until your ready to get him a pair of DetectorPro Grey Ghost's 100.00

Re: Treasure net members final choice kid's first detector!

I think you should seriously reconsider the Lesche and go with a screw driver instead to use as a probe for the coins and to learn to lever them out. Starting him digging holes in the grass at a park is not the way to promote the hobby or teach him about leaving the ground as he found it. Lesche are OK for the woods and nowhere else. Teach him how to cut a plug if he has too.

I agree with Woodland and Sandman completely. Great advice guys.

Coin popping with a screwdriver? :icon_scratch: A kid? :laughing7:

You want to encourage the youngster, not discourage him. :'(

I have been detecting over 40 years, and I can only pop coins at very shallow depths. If the coin is deeper than 2-2.5 inches, forget it. :(

Get the lad the Lesche and let him make successful recoveries. :icon_thumright:

Later, when he is older, more experienced, you can try the coin popping. :icon_thumleft:
