Treasure hunting in the Dominican Republic

Sorry can't help with the D.R.. But my metal detecting buddy just got back from New Zealand and he says NZ is virtually wide open and almost untouched by metal detectorists. He found coin everywhere.

I went there on my honeymoon about 2 years ago. I didn't have a problem but he may want to stay close to the resorts if he plans on detecting at night. I was told by a local that you don't want to be out late at night too far from the resorts. I gave the resort security guy (stationed on the beach at the edge of the resort) a few dollars and he looked out for me and followed me around for a few hours. No one asked what I was doing and no one seemed to care.

Thanks guys. It seems okay. I will tell my buddy Tony to pack his detector. :o Mike.

Just spent 7 days in Punta Cana.Melia Caribe Tropical resort,Beaches were empty at dusk saw no one metal detecting asked if it ok they said ok,but did not bring detector.did not know about legality.
