A group known as The Treasure Hunters Roadshow, which is affiliated with The International Collectors Association, is to bring its hunt to Prestonsburg in the next couple of weeks. Referring to themselves as “modern-day treasure hunters,” the group will be at Comfort Suites in Prestonsburg on Nov. 15 through Nov. 19. The hunters are encouraging Floyd County residents to go through any items they think could be of value and bring them by during this next stop on their world-wide tour. There is no limit to the number of items you can bring and the group says it’s best to not clean them before bringing them out to be examined because the items could be accidentally damaged during that process. Attendance to the event costs nothing, according to organizers, but those who wish to come should expect waits of roughly 45 minutes, depending on attendance.

Personally I wouldn't give them the time of day. Not just because of these couple of articles either-

but because I already know they are going to lowball you, I consider them a "traveling pawnshop" without the chance to buy your stuff back. I'd sell it on ebay first unless I really didn't care and just wanted to get rid of the stuff (which would never happen for me). Be wary is all i'm saying.

Thanks for the information, it looks like I may need to get the word out localy to make sure they don't rip off any of my neighbors. I will post the links on my local newspapers website and hope they investigate some themselves.

Last year or so, they came here to Deming New Mexico.

Left with unpaid bills, Worthless checks and just pissed folks off.

At least Cash for Golds checks don't bounce. LOL!

These folks have left a trail of this stuff behind them.

Here is just one link. http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_story.aspx?storyid=100871

Now Google the name and check out all the complaints. There is even a warning from the Better Business Bureau, BBB. LOL!

May be cool to attend just to see what going on and whats out there but I sure wouldn't take a check from them.

I already posted a little information on the local newspapers site, Have gotten some positive responses from the community for the warnings.

These guys were here a couple months ago (maybe not the same crew). Basically they are pickers and yes they offer you a lot less then retail for your items. You can negotiate some but if there isn't going to be any profit for them after expenses they are not interested. I guess if you really need the money they are buying but it will be about 1/2 of the actual value or less. I can see how they can be seen as scammers but they make you an offer on your item and you can either take the money or keep your stuff, no big deal.

They do put some cool stuff out on display so it wasn't a wasted trip for me, it really is kinda neat to see their set-up. I didn't sell them anything but the silver coins I took in were sold to my regular coin shop for more then twice what they offered. Go in and check it out but don't expect to leave there rich.
