I hunted this quaint little swim area last year and came away with a cell phone, a beautiful Africa themed sterling silver band as well as a silver 1950's peso (previous thread). This swim area all together is quite large, but you can tell that it has been purposely sized down by all the weeds and muck just outside of the main swim area. The old peso as well as some other old stuff was found in the muckier, weedier area. So this time I decided to focus mainly on the older area. I put the 8 X 11 coil on the AT Pro knowing it would give me a better depth advantage and decided to hit it.
I had a feeling that this little treasure chest was hiding some gold somewhere. Last year after finding the silver, I just remember thinking that there must be some gold out there. I kid you not, I walked into the current "main" swim area (figuring I would quickly sweep this area first) and the AT Pro gave me a sweet sharp mid tone, looked at the vdi and saw a 45-47....ok I thought, this is a solid signal and might be a gold ring. First target, yes you heard that right, very first target was the Fredrick Goldman 14k wedding band! That just made the hunt. About 5 or so targets later I got that same sweet mid tone but this one was deep. After about 4 or 5 scoops in the muck out came this old ornate "gold" ring with ice. Wow, I thought I hit it big time! Failed the gold test back home, but man it looked so good. It just amazes me the quality that was put into even junk jewelry back in the day. Anyhow I spent about 5-6 hours slowly scouring the entire area and came away with my first sterling silver spoon as well as a beautiful old floral pattern sterling band and a huge sterling box chain weighing in at just under an ounce. Also found some cool time period stuff: ornate swim buckles, lipstick tubes, the old pocket knife, couple wheats, 1939 nickel, etc. Anyhow, what a wonderful hunt. This was one happy pirate! Oh, by the way....the name on the sterling spoon pretty much sums it up!
Ps, I just opened the watch up and it is a Doxa!
