Whites Coin Master. Garrett AT Gold, Garrett Ace 350
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Have anyone ever traveled by commercial airline with there metal detectors? Flying to Florida for a week and wanting to do some beach hunting while I'm there and wondering if anyone has ever checked there metal detectors.

Sure, break it down, put it in your checked luggage surrounded by clothes for padding.

I would break it down and out the coil and electronics in your carry one, and remainder in your checked bags. Things do get taken sometimes from checked bags but only part of a detector isn't that interesting to thieves.

Thanks guys. I planned on taking it in my carry-on. I'll just treat it like my computer

Lol I was gonna ask the same thing, looks like I get to go to Florida too and wanted to bring my detector along. I figured I could bring the electronics along but wasn't sure about the rod.

You don't need to notify anyone of anything! It's a detector, not a firearm.

i just got back from florida vacation with detector.

broke down detector and put in my checked baggage between my clothes.
worked perfect. pinpointer and scoop also.

flew u.s. airways, all was good.

really enjoyed hunting the beach down there. get out a daylight before the crowds.

Just as above, I broke mine down and put it in my checked bag padded by my clothes. Pinpointer too, no problems at all.

A chance not taken is a wasted opportunity

Hi-

Put mine in checked luggage on a ryanair flight to France last June.
As we were boarding the customs appeared and called my name.
I had to walk ten minutes to a customs shed and there was my suitcase spread over a table.
It had shown up on the x ray, and between that and the fold up shovel must have looked very sketchy.
They knew there was no problem and let me pack up and Leave.
By this time my flight had left. No chance of a refund from Ryanair, so I had to pay another 260e to get another flight-- 46 hours
later to the wrong city, followed by a six hour wait for a four hour train journey home.

Two days sitting in an airport gave me plenty of time to decide to just take it in carry on from now on.
Just a cautionary tale. Having said that, Murphy always seems to follow me around airports!!!
