Found this melted plastic and copper today at a place I work at periodically...
It’s a trash to steam plant.
Appears to be a bunch of blank planchets that was in a plastic container. Made it through the Boiler and found in the ash.
They are copper and they DO NOT have any details!
Curious what everyone thinks it is!

One possibility is that they are the waste from a metal punch and were put in a plastic container with the intention of going to the scrap yard but somehow went to the steam plant instead.

I like Dave's token/planchet theory.
You didn't mention the dimensions, maybe take a picture of these next to a quarter or penny for size comparison.

They could have been from the Maintenance Facility intended to be stamped as tool /equipment / key tags.

Friend of mine operates a fab shop. He get thousands of different shapes and metal stampings. He save all the copper ones until the scrap price is up and then sells. He has had problems with people stealing buckets of stamped copper.

Since it has no real value to it .. historical or otherwise .. But it is cool as heck, I would be tempted to encapsulate it with epoxy resin and set it on my coffee table! Certainly would make a unique display and conversation piece!

The planchets are same diameter but thinner.

pop one out and weigh it to see if it matches any known coins. If they are US penny blanks they have to be pre '82 because zincolns wouldn't have survived the fire in that condition

Blanks for coins are slightly oversized than the finished coin, a penny is .750 when finished.
