Transom Deck Timber OR ?

I've been told this looks to be a Deck Transom. The top piece of timber that made up the transom that the Deck was attached to.

Around 8' L x 6.5-7" w x 3.5-4" thick. Has nice curvature to it also.

Maybe someone knows what piece of the ship this may have come off of and maybe how old it may be.

A friend who has been diving, detecting, salvaging, etc. for 40+ years believes this may be as for back as 1600's - 1800's. This floated up on the beach awhile back.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Deck transom? That's like saying "floor wall". Any image? From the description maybe a support beam from a hatch frame or deck house or cabin.

Like one of the pieces of "1" in the attached image.

Google "Wooden Ship Construction" and then click in "Images". Loads of timber views. Same for "Wooden Boat Construction".

Here's a good one, too. An overhead of a ship that was excavated at the World Trade Towers construction site. You can see some timbers with the double curve.
