Transformer or something else?

I dug this copper thing at a site with stuff ranging from colonial to today. So tons of trash and cool old stuff. This head is copper (it got nicked a bit) and looks like a modern transformer toy, but the patina on it indicates that it could be much older. I have been cleaning this for about a week with peroxide. Is this something else?

Ok, here is my guess ( don’t forget that I’m not particularly smart), I’m going to say something to do with a furnace door or some kind of a key hole guard

I can tell you that it is not a transformer as the only thing copper in a transformer are the wire windings. They'd also have no need for the strange markings i see on that. I'm thinking, what else did you find near them as that could shed some light on what it is part of?

This could actually be a belt or suspenders buckle. The first two pictures show the clasp that I dug separately that I believe goes to this head and badly corroded.

Other items that I found at this site are a handful of tombac buttons, a three ringer miniball, an 1888 IHP, 1869 City of Savannah dog tag, 1944 silver quarter and misc ornamental brass pieces and modern clad. This is an old homesite in Savannah that has been raized recently.

Were the two pieces together? The prongs make me think it was attached to fabric or leather.

I thought it was a face when I first looked. It's hard to 'un-see' that now...

I can see this piece being a belt buckle. This one obviously isn't the same but it reminded me of the art deco style.

Yes, this makes sense. I just now remembered that I found some Art Deco stuff at a church site about a block away last year. Interesting. This thing initially looks like a weird transformers head to me.

Maybe I'm seeing things but are those Corporal stripes on the end? Or is that the bottom?

Yes, I had 3 kids of that era and none of their transformer toys were made of metal as everything turned plastic in the 60s/70s. I would be obliged to see 1 thing transformer that is made of copper or bronze that'll match that pattern before I'll stand corrected.

FYI, I was referring to an electrical transformer firstly as I misunderstood his meaning to be the toy, but I don't think it's either case.

That looks very similar to some scarf clips I've picked up. If you made your find near a church, it'd make sense. All fancied up for church & lost it. Then hearing it from hubby till next Sunday.........
