Transformer, light socket, and switch. What's it for?

I know what the components are, at least I think I do - but what the heck is this thing for? And is it valuable? Came out of a barn and is 11" long. Also, the two jacks at the bottom are patch cords that can be plugged in and out. I have an idea of what it is, but want to hear what you guys think.

I think it is a vintage magneto of some sorts, look up images of lawn mower magnetos, and vintage magnetos.

Yeah Indian Steve nailed it, do an image search for vintage armature tester. I only saw the magnetic pickup because I didn’t look close enough.

Indiah Steve is right!! It's called a " Growler" It's a crude way to check armatures. If the windings were good it would make a growling sound. Tony
