O Well I am into my winter research. I have located, on paper, an island in the Susquehanna that had a trading post and later a fort on it. The island name has changed, but I have nailed it down. This is in Maryland waters below the Conowingo Dam. I have checked the topos on it. There is a high spot that I suspect would be the logical position to build a trading post and fort. We are talking 1600's here so I suspect the goodies will be old. Years back I did some detecting on this island in another area and came up with an ax and some WWII army '06 casings.
Now I need to locate a partner with a boat! Frank... 111-1 profile.webp

The 'owner' of the trading post was run off by the military because he didn't have title to the land so I am figuring in his hasty retreat he left some caches.

Is the island elevated enough as to avoid flood waters over the centuries? Sounds like a fun dig.

Yes and the topo shows that the probable fort site is about 80' above the average height of the island. The big problem is every one I know with a boat has mothballed them until spring. Further research has revealed that the one that ran the trading post was run off before he got back to the post. He was deported back to England. That means that there is a good chance for a cache. Frank...AA garwood.webp I wish!!!
