As much as I do love colonial relics, my roots did begin civil war relic hunting many years ago and I do from time to time get out and look for them. The summers typically are when I do most of it as water hunting has allowed for a chunk of the year devoted to that and a large chunk to colonial relics (fall/winter).
This is my take from a short hunt with a good friend - Civil War bullets, including some .69 three ringers and .69 buck-balls. I also dug some fragments and odds and ends. I dug plenty of buck balls but just a few of their .69 balls. These are from a very historic battle site (private property with permission) which made it that much more meaningful. I did dig three buttons, an eagle button back, and two flat buttons.
The most unique find was the buckball that had been made into a musket nipple protector. I have dug these from three ringers over the years, but never one this small.
Get ready for this weekend - a three day colonial hunt with good friends is planned and ready!
