I found an Oklahoma Trade Token a few days ago. It appears to be Aluminum and has either some very hard dirt caked on it or some sort of soot i think. I have had it soaking in water for about 2 days and the stuff still seems hardpacked on, is there a way to get it to soften up and maybe fall off? Would a sonic cleaner damage it?

Until a member jumps in - I would soak it in soap and hot water and gently rub off the dirt twiasp. Hey, how about a picture.

I'm no expert and you should check before doing this. I found a really rough game token that was crusted really bad, took Hyd. peroxide (spelling) heated it in microwave then dropped coin in. It fizzed away, and after several repeats the coin cleaned up nicely. Found this method on you tube

A picture would help a great deal in determining the kind of cleaning (if any) that would improve the appearance of the token.
