I found this item in northern Michigan when i was 5 or 6 years old (1966) near the Menominee river where the Menominee Indians were known to inhabit, My uncle who owned the local barber shop, gave me a quarter for it and he displayed it in a display case in his shop along with flint arrowheads and other curious items up until the 1990's when he had to worry about local break ins, when i asked him what ever became of it, i was pleasantly surprised when he gave back, to this day i don't know if he was just feeding my imagination or if it actually was a trade item, regardless i was so proud that something i found deserved a place of honor along side all his fascinating treasures.

Thanks Montana Jim, I just bought a used minelab with the intention of looking for trade items and cooper culture artifacts, i've always been a dreamer. Me and my best friend spent an entire day learning my new detector, we found empty 40-60 caliber wra (winchester repeating arms) casings and an old horse bridle and three buckles ,the shell casings were from around 1876, there was'nt much left to the bridle it had been in the mud so long, maybe it belonged to the same guy with the 40-60, anyway a very enjoyable day.

Welcome to treasurenet tnkcmdr... military?

Hope to see some more finds from ya - and that item you posted... I'm just guessing at it, but would consider it worth investigating further!

Good luck with the copper culture and trade stuff...
