Toy gun age?

I found this toy gun in a field that dates back to the mid 1600s and I was wondering how old it was? it is 2.5 inches long.

Looks like the frame of a BANG cap gun made by Dent circa 1925, but sorta hard to tell. Maybe once you get it cleaned it will reveal more detail.

May turn out not to be a gun at all. Recently, somebody found a piece that looked sorta like a toy gun, but when cleaned, it turned out to be a genuine "whatzit" .. I will see if I can get him to post it.

LOL is that the verbal form of electrolysis?
