Hi all. While searching today at the local park I've mentioned a few times I got a hit that I thought would be a penny, but it ended up being this little fireman's helmet, which I assume is from an old toy of some sort. Although I guess it could also be some sort of decorative item I guess.
What do you guys think?

Details that I noticed and tried to photograph:
- there's a hole in the front "brim" of the helmet, near the big dent. I guess that could indicate that it would hang from something? (I didn't get a photo of that hole)
- I think there's a "W" or similar markings on the front of the helmet, though it's hard to see with the cracks
- I think there's a symbol on the back of the helmet and possibly writing. I could only make out an "H" shape that isn't exactly an H.

Anyway, thanks for looking and let me know what you think this is!

Cool relic, congrats! :occasion14:

Cool find!!! I found a similar one with V F A on the front. Volunteer Fire Association. Here is a link to it. It was identified as a suspension medal!! http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/612737-monogrammed-small-fire-department-hat.html

OMG thank you! It looks like you found a much nicer condition version of the same relic, diggingthe1 ! Thanks for sharing that.
After reading your post I was able to locate two different listings of for-sale items that included this sort of medal/badge. It appears as if it once had an eagle pin attached above the helmet, and my helmet probably has writing on it that would mean something if it was legible.

Wow - now I want to know even more about the history of this piece! The park where I found it is not associated with the local fire departments, but I could imagine that a ceremony could have occurred 100+ years ago there and this could have been lost at that time.

Very cool! Now I feel very lucky!

(These images are from 3rd party auction-type websites, so I won't provide source links unless I'm told I have to)

It looks like you found out more than I ever knew about it. We will have to go back and look for the eagles now!!! Maybe you can slowly clean yours to see the letters,, good luck! Sometimes I get a small wire brush and get a little aggressive to find out what is below the crust. Thanks to Subterranean for the ID

Thats a cool find research can be fun when you find stuff like that... Good job.....Tommy
