image.jpgDidn't know Garage sales could be so dangerous! Picked this up for $2.50 I think it is vintage and silver, maybe? What do you guys think?image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Can't get a good view of the post and side but the post has a black stone but shines blue when light shines through. Also as ornate as the front.

Also got one of the good ole aluminum lounge chairs for $2.00 all in all a good day except for feeling like I was at K-mart during a "blue light special"":hello2:

Are there any marks on it? If not you need to pop the back & see what it says on the inside. Could be white gold.....or could be plate.

No markings anywhere on the exterior. Figured I needed to remove the back but I was worried about damaging it. Is there a tool better suited than a small screwdriver? Thanks for looking

There is a tool specifically designed to remove watch backs. Any jeweler would have one. Don't use a screwdriver, it will damage the piece.

If it's really a vintage piece the back won't be hard to remove. I've pried a bunch off with nothing more than my fingernail. If it takes more effort than that some gentle persuasion with a knife blade or screwdriver should do it. Having said that, if it doesn't come off with a light touch stop or you will damage the piece.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. If I fail then off to the jewelry store...

Hi,
Very nice find! I would say the watch is from the Art Deco period, 1920's or 30's. It could be of French origin, perhaps? It would not surprise me if it is silver. As for removing the back, I would suggest you go to the jeweler's to get that done, as you suggest. If you use a knife you could hurt yourself and damage watch. That would be a shame, as it is in very good condition, apparently.
Regards.

Took the plunge and with very little was able to remove the back with no damage. It is an Oris Watch. 1 jewel 1 adjustment. Now I just have to date and identify the model. A Luxury wrist watch co. Founded in 1904. I like the sound of that!

Very nice watch. Well worth $2.50. :icon_thumright:

"Clean-up in aisle one"...just in case you really want to feel like you're at K-Mart!
