Well,.Sometimes ?
The other night I was putting one of those “crammed -frames” together , like the one’s I’ve seen here on this forum , with a “little” twist......of course . Anyway this one little black point caught my attention , it was a bit thick and awkward , I always assumed it to be made of obsidian . I put it under the loop , the angular texture did not seem to be obsidian ? I held it up against a light-bulb , no transparency , a characteristic of shroll [black] tourmaline . I repeated the light-bulb test with a few other pieces of obsidian from the tray , which showed with a pale-green hue .

A crude obsidian point on the left , on the right my possible tourmaline point

Now , we have tourmaline mines here in San Diego / riverside counties that produce pink ,green and some blue tourmalines and other gems and crystals . I’m sure the Native-Americans where aware of these dykes [gem baring vain], they seemed to like to make there points from the optical-quartz crystals from these dykes . Its not uncommon to find quartz crystals , and to a point pieces of tourmaline while out looking for points

Another pic of the possible tourmaline point , this time on a pink tourmaline

I have seen two crude [rough ?] green tourmaline points , they were in a small dinner/ museum , and I’ve “heard” of a “few” others , but at best they are not common .
I believe when tourmaline was used for a point , it wasn’t done out of necessity , but rather out of curiosity . Tourmaline has a “grain” , even the clear crystals , and wouldn’t take well to being flaked , but man has of course ,... tried......a few times ., anyway
