Hi All,

First Post, and thank you all already for all the info I have learned on this forum in the past 2 weeks.

Just joined GPAA and bought some bags of dirt and am having so much fun panning the color out of them, teaching myself while watching videos online... Looking forward to going out of the area and finding some gold! Its a major bucketlist item for me, to find a piece of gold out of the ground, no matter how small!

I also bought a used BH Sharpshooter 2 last year and have been out a couple times and found some coins. Really looking forward to figuring out this machine!

Anyone in the Santa Barbara area care to share some tips or knowledge? Anyone going to the MineLabbing event? I just signed up and look forward to learning a lot!

Thanks in advance!

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: California for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

welcome marco good luck at the minelab hunt

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

Any tips on the Minelab event? How is it run? What is it??? lol... I signed up but have no idea what it is or any tips on how to use(or if I can even use) my BH Sharpshooter 2. Do they have detectors you can use/rent?

Do they hide metal that translates to prizes, etc? Where to start? What settings to use on my SS2... so many questions!

Thanks in advance!
Marco

PS - Anyone who helps, heck, anyone who comes to SB, I fish and dive. You ever want to go, Ill take ya or turn you on to the hot bite! Right now, salmon off Rincon Island with mixed in Baracuda up over 40 inches, and Seabass up over 50 lbs taken in the last week on the big schools of small chovie bait. Look for the birds or the bait piddling on the surface!

I am planning to go to this and am also a first timer. I have several detectors and wonder which to bring. As PI's are not allowed, I'm wondering about a Tesoro Compadre vs a Tejon. I have both. I haven't used the Tejon much but can get used to it pretty quick. I have a selection of coils for it - which would be best? I'm thinking the Compadre works great but doesn't have as big a coil as the Tejon could be configured with. Also, use headphones or not and what to bring as a digging tool? Last, where to park and do we really need to be there at 8am?

I attended this and it was really fun. I ended up winning a profinder25. But i didn't get to watch other contestants. Some guys found ten times as many coins/tags as i did. What did they do that i did not? It is not a detector issue. I took the Tejon and if anything it was too good as i would find deep things that others passed over. Maybe i should have used a small diameter coil rather than the 10"x12"DD?

Hi B
Im sorry we did not meet. I will write up a report for the event, it was quite a great time!!! and my sunburn is just starting to go away!

I learned a LOT by watching others and picking up on things, my findings went up significantly with each heat!

I think that a smaller coil would have helped, but more import, moving and covering sand... I noticed that the guys who did really well, didnt take time to inspect what they found, in fact, just poured whatever was in their scoops into a sack, rocks and all, for sorting later on. Scoop n go, Scoop n go! It is such a time critical event, I would say that 80% of the finds were found in the first 2-4 minutes, and another 10% found in the next 5 minutes... so spending an extra 30 seconds on one penny, means you were not able to hit 3 or 4 other marks...

I had a BLAST and learned so very much... and met some cool people with whom I hope to go prospecting with soon!
