I have taken the big silver bird to the lands of the north. NY. Long Island. Well, there be this here Giant Hogweed plant supposed to be here. We drove for an hour checking every woodlot, roadside and abandoned building we could and did not see ONE! I think they are invisible. Didn't see any invasive parakeets here either.

I'll bite, Smokey. I had never heard of the Giant Hogweed, so of course I had to look it up. Now the question arises, why in the world do you want to get near such a nasty plant? From what I found, most on Long Island are near the far NE end.

I am in that area. Just wanted too see it and get a picture. No such luck. Saw one thing I was fooled by. You certainly don’t want to actually get near it. Nasty thing.

I’ll post a pick later I’ve got a couple of patches near me.The state has put up warning signs as they can be very nasty.

If you touch it the sap reacts with the sun and gives 3rd degree burns. If in eyes you can be permanently blinded

I’ve heard you can get rashes and sores that flare up years later.

Didn’t dare to get closer.they must have gotten rid of alot of it ,it was closer to the road.Anyway this is a sample for anyone curious. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1531677426.348506.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1531677440.090428.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1531677453.581214.jpg
The growth around it is probably 4or5 feet tall making that plant 8to 10 must be young as they get much taller

I saw some kid on the news the other day, all burned up by that Hogweed. If you encounter it, be extra careful.

Best to you Smokey!

And this is what General Discussion has turned into.......Facebook Lite.
Why? Because someone mentioned giant hogweed? Seems logical to me to post it. I wouldn't want to run across it. Kind of relates to metal detecting if you ask me. Not that it's a requirement or anything. ::)
