total greenhorn here reporting in to say hi

Hello all wanted to say hi I just traded for a 6000 di on craigslist this past weekend, all I've found with it so far is the nails in the floor of the livingroom. although I did get into the backyard but wasn't able to dig much,the ground is frozen and under about 4" of snow.
My dad who lives in Alabama is also wanting to start md'ing, he has me looking for him a machine for him also. I've been checking out e-bay looking for some of the other older whites models for him.
I'm eyeballing a 4000d right now' will this be a good one for him?He's wanting to shell out only $75-100 dollars to see if this is something he'll enjoy. If you all have any other suggestions I'm all ears.

Welcome to Tnet! The DI 6000 is a good choice. Don't get discouraged if you don't come home with the gold every time you go out, it takes a while to learn what the detector is telling you. Practice, practice and keep practicing. I don't know what to tell you on a detector for your dad, that's going to be a hard one. Good luck and looking forward to your post and finds.

As far as Whites Machines are concerned you could post you question at the whites page on this forum, there are a lot of very experienced Whites users who can answer any of your questions. Welcome Hank, I am new too, still gotta lot of reading to do. I am sure you will enjoy this net, almost as much as I do. I have been th'ing even before MD's were on the market and have learned more on here in the past couple of weeks than all the years before. One thing I learned, you don't always find, but hunting is fun.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone ...As to the white's forum I was browsing there a couple of nights ago and was doing a search when all of a sudden it popped up a message up that I had been banned,so I don't know what that's all about it says there is an error and I've been banned. Anyone have a clue to that one? it seemed like a rather informative group ,but not very user friendly I guess. I deleted all my internet files and cookies thinking it may be something wrong on this end but it didn't help. any help would be aprreciated. it wont even let me get any info on how to contact atheir webmaster for assistance?
