I believe Ecuador actually uses the dollar as currency, so technically it is worth 50 cents. If you were in Ecuador, you could exchange it for US currency. I actually got one in a roll of half dollars at the bank a few months ago.
 

US currency has replaced the currency they used, Sucres. My mom (Ecuadorian), brought back a few dime sized coins that were not US dimes, but their equivalent over there. If I ever visit again, I am bringing back some dug coins. I don't think there are more than a dozen hobbyists in that country, if that.
