I need a little help,point in the right direction. I need to look at the oldest Topo Maps for Ouachita Parish. Back before the Civil war if possible, but anything old would be nice. Can any of you help me with that? I have looked at the Sanborn maps for Monroe but I need something for outside of Monroe.
I have an old plantation I have been hunting on. The owner told me it has been in his family since before the Civil War. He and his overseer has shown me old house seats but these dont go back in time that far and he doesnt know of where the older houses were located. It is a huge area of land.
The plantation never had a "plantation home" as the original owner lived in town but I would think there should have been some kind of overseer living out there since it had slaves at one time. I found the old slave cemetary but just looking for an idea on where the older structures may have been.
