Hello all,,,
The temperature slipped up into the mid 40's here today and it was fairly warm yesterday, compared to what we've had lately, so I decided to checkout one of the local sledding hills. We still have about a foot of snow in the yard, but I was hoping the kids had the hill either packed down, or worn off. I got lucky with it being a little of both. I only dug surface targets, most still above the ground, but underneath the snow and ice. The ground was still pretty hard and not easy to dig, so I didn't bother breaking another knife this year..;D

Total was (86) cents in clad, a cheap lock blade knife, and a bic lighter that seems to be brand new...

It had been well over a month since I last went out, so it felt good to just get out and get me a February fix. Hopefully it won't be long before the next one...
I hope ya all had the chance to get out and had some luck...
Have a great day, Leon...

Way to get out Leon, I got out 2 days ago (I had to snowblow the side of the yard about 2 feet sown to get to the ground) and found a few pulltabs, a broken bottle opener and an Aladdin arcade token. I'm like you, it wasn't much but it was nice to get out and swing the coil!!

Spring is just around the corner.

good job, i took a walk around a sledding area yesterday and found two quarters laying on the snow, and a whole bunch of sled parts!! no detecting yet for me.

There now, Leon...don't you feel much better! ;)

Glad you got to go out! Congrats on your finds...

Nana :)

There is a sledding hill of about an acre in town where a restaurant used to be years ago - burned down. The snow has melted a little and where dirt shows I found 4 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 3 pennies today. In between snow storms and melting I have found so far this year mostly laying on the ground - about $5.00. The ground is a little frozen for metal detecting. Last year I found about $14.00 at the same site. Only one doing this. Right now the misty fog has turned to snow. Sledding this weekend for flatlanders coming up to see the snow and heading for the ski resorts. There are some more sled areas along the highway to the ski areas that I will hit after the snow melts. It's nice to walk around and see the coins on the ground. Right now I am wearing a running Casio watch I found on the snow last year. When the snow melts and the ground unfreezes I will head to the local campgrounds before they open for the public in May. I am lucky - only one metal detecting in these and other areas. Historic area and more research to do.

Thanks all....

i dont know how you do it in that weather... we are blessed here in ca... good for gettn out..
I really envy you guys in the warmer climates. The weather is one of the only things I don't like about living in this area... I quit going out in the really cold weather, I have a bad habit of braking my dig'n knives when the temps get below freezing...

lol,,, I had thought about clearing out a spot myself a while back, but I think the ground would have been too hard to dig in anyway... That's one way of beating Old Mother Nature though,,, Good job...

Good you could at least get out to walk around. If we could sell sled parts, we'd probably both be rich... ;D

Cool finds. The knife is great. Bet you are going to find a lot more before you are done with that hill. ::)
Thank you mumszie... I went back to the hill yesterday and didn't do to well, 11 cents, A dime, and a penny. I think the kids are getting smarter these days and leaving their money at home... ;D

I do, I do,,, feel much better now... Thanks Nana...

Gretchen, Sounds like your cleaning house/(hill side) out that way... Those are some great totals....
Good luck after the thaw....

Well,,, as I stated to mumszie, I went back to the hill yesterday, but wasn't having any luck. The wind made it pretty chilly, so I decided to skip around a little and take a few shots of some of the scenery... This first pic shows where we used to go sledding... lol, it's a wonder us kids ever made through are childhood... We used to live just across the street from where the red arrow is shown, and when the river froze up, we would slide sown that hill...
Not a very good idea... P.S.> If you look just above the arrow, you can see where they are builing the new Colt's stadium...
