I realize as a newbie, I see Indian artifacts in all my rocks. I keep on looking. I'm posting one rock that represents several that I have with the same characteristics. Deep notching in one corner, slight notching on the other side, and slick bottoms, some with darker colors on the sides and the bottom. I've been warned that looking for thumb notches will fool me every time, so I may be fooled again. Now I may be fooled by pecking. That being said, I'm posting another picture to ask if you see signs of pecking or man made notches.

Thank you ahead of time!

Welcome to TreasureNet, sorry just rocks.

They are just very old beat up rocks, who got knocked around a lot. Kind of like me. lol

the best advice I can give someone new to the hunt is to ask yourself..."what was it used for"... in most cases it should be pretty obvious.

yup, field stone. Keep looking.

Look at photos posted showing relics how they look when not totally exposed. Study them as often only a small part of a relic may be exposed. Study peck marks on hardstone used to manufacture relics.

Look for unnatural lines as you scan the ground. Slow down when looking.

Stop every few steps and look around. It helps the eyes to change the focal distance. If your using a close search pattern, when you pause look further out. Look behind you. Sometimes relics will be hidden from view from one perspective, but easily seen from a different.

Once you find a relic, study it in the ground. It will get easier.
