Hey Folks,
Even though sometimes I feel like I have more hardware than Lowes, I'm still not that familiar with nuts, bolts, tools, etc. I found this funky looking bolt and was hoping someone would know what it is and its use. It's about 4 inches long and has a thick area in the center with an open area. It is not threaded, and quite heavy. Thanks in advance, Breezie

SS, Good ID & fast too! Nice pic Jeff; looks almost identical. It is so skinny, I didn't think about it being a small tack hammer. Is there anyway to determine how old it is or are all tack hammers basically the same throughout the years? I found it not too far from the 1887 Sambo Cap Gun, but of course you know this really means nothing, although that one area has given up some nice CW pieces.

Creskol, thanks for asking. I'm about 120 miles from the coast, and our area has been predicted to get lots of rain and winds around 50-55 mph. Even though NC is hurricane alley, and I've been around them all my life, it still can be a scary thing. We use to have a small place at the beach, and sold it not too long ago.

Not to be rambling about hurricanes, but we lost our entire shop/business during Hurricane Dennis in 1999. The funny thing, (not really funny) we went to the beach to prep the house for Hurricane Dennis, but decided to stay because Dennis moved away from NC and went to Virginia. Dennis circled back and slammed the NC coast. We were 1 block from the Sound and 3 blocks from the ocean; it was unbelievable. While we were at the beach experiencing Dennis' wrath, our home & business got slammed too. Other than a few tree limbs in the yard, and my nerves torn-up, the beach house was fine, but back home the business was totaled, and our house had partial damage. So you never know when dealing with wind and water. We've had some doozies here in NC, but houses, businesses, etc. can be replaced; lives can't. Everyone needs to use some common sense, evacuate, and be safe.

Let's see, we had an Earthquake this week, a Hurricane is on for tomorrow, if I see a Plague of Locust I'm outta here! :laughing7:

Thanks again, Breezie
