Tool ID Second Opinion

I posted this tool about two years ago. I found it in a creek bed near a ancient mound site here in Tennessee. The tool fits perfectly into the palm of your hand as shown in one picture where I am holding it. It has one groove of decent size and a smaller groove too. It is clearly smoothed on one end and the other end has a depression that is perfect for fitting your finger in to get a good grip on it. It also appears to have smut or burn marks on it. I have heard tthat such stains remain on some tools that are exposed to fire.

Anyway, would like to hear from you who are reading this two years later to see what your thoughts are.

Chief!! your stone looks like it could possably be an abrader for smoothing down arrow shafts, but nature makes a whole lot of stones that fit the hand. Terry

I think the tool is a shaft tool for arrows- The groove your finger is laying in actually should be exposed and the rock would slide up and down on the shaft to smooth it out-In your area I believe there is a lot of rivercane which is American bamboo- If you have ever seen bamboo it has nodes or humps dividing each section along the shaft-the shaft is heated in a fire and straightened and then the nodes are sanded off to make for a smooth, quiet draw-the head would be hafted on a hardwood dowel and inserted into the hollow shaft with pine pitch glue, then wrapped with a little sinew. I hunt with similar type arrows
