Took a break from coinshootin'
Took a breather from coin hunting and dug another privy. Thought it was going to be a smaller one, man was I wrong. The privies here are fairly consistent at around 6 feet deep. This one produced bottles starting at 5 feet and continued past 8 feet. Then it was time to get serious about whether to continue. It's not worth getting killed for a bottle. So we decided to brace the walls with plywood and try for the bottom layer. Got down to what I believe was the top of the glass line( near the bottom) but the dirt was just too soft and was caving in. Needless to say it was a bit scary. We were approaching 9 feet and we called it quits. The vase that you see here would have been the great find of the day at 9 feet but it is broke on the other side. We did manage a few keepers but I sure wish I could have snapped up the lower layer. I am sure there are more good ones down there, but they will be encased in dirt forever. Unless of course a huge digger comes back there and digs them up for me. Oh well, on to the next hunt. Whether it's coins or bottles I'm not sure, but it's treasure none the less. Be safe out there! jgas
