"Tommy gun" toy, any thoughts?

Does anyone recognize what era or set of toys this came from? Its nickel plated and 2-1/2" long. Not dug, but rather found in the attic of my folks home in the 1960's. There's a seam around the outer edge. Its similar to the Thompson automatic (tommy gun), but not really exact. I'm just trying to figure out why I've kept it in my "cool stuff" drawer for so many years.

could not find any info on your item.

Looks old; the receiver covering is a bit strange, should
be flat.

Wonder if it is a "tommy gun"?

60"s attic, wonder if it could be some sort of "Ray Gun"?

Wonder what type of age could be attached to it, being
two pieces stuck together and not a single piece. Are you
sure it's not just a seam off center or cut bad?

When did tommy gun come into being, end of WW One?
Again some type of space gun?

Shermanville, I had to change that first post. Yes its just a casting seam...what was I thinking . I believe its cast iron, because its heavy for its size and theres a dot of rust where the nickel plate came off.

A tommy gun has a pistol grip just behind the trigger guard. Like shermanville said the receiver should be flat. It kinda resembles a suomi which is finnish submachine gun from 1920's used up until 1990. On the other hand, the mold maker may have taken some "ceative license" when making it. I hope this helps.

Thanks Willie. I'm beginning to think it probably was a "creative license" design. Oh well, I hoped an old-timer would see it and say "hey I had one of those as a kid".

It looks like a 40's to 50's small toy. Like you said cast and c-plated. They were popular stocking stuffers and sold at the 5 & 10 like Kress and woolworth. Before the days of choking hazards to small children. Nice item!

The first Tommy Guns were .38 cal. It was changed to .45 cal during WW2 and the clip was then added.
