In a dirt mound from a construction site at a sewer plant in Medford NJ. Can anyone identify its age, type of stone, what was it used for etc...... It's probably made of hardstone and it shows definite signs of use/wear. I'm guessing its Archaic in age also. I'm not an expert, so lets see if any one else here agrees or has another suggestion. Nice find!

I believe the 3/4 Groove came after the Full Groove and is a mid to late Archaic Tool. Yours is a very nice one. Congrats on the great find. Here's a link that may be of help to you. It's on the Archaic period in New Jersey. http://www.nj.gov/dep/hpo/1identify/pg_52_ArchaicPeriodNJCraft_Mounier.pdf
