With the drought this summer I haven't been out much but I got out Sat. for a couple hours. I hunted an alfalfa field, my last unhunted site of several owned by a local farmer. Former 1873+ house site. On the first hole I dug a nice green penny and hoped for an IHP. Alas, only a wheatie, no date visible. I found the usual cutlery pieces, harmonica reeds, buttons and junk. After a few hours I was ready to call it day then got a good signal. Dug a CW "business card" from JW Peirce Dry Goods and Groceries, Grand Rapids, Mich. I haven't found a lot of these so that made my day. (Also I grew up in GR so that was neat.) A few minutes later another good signal and dug a large copper that I could tell was not a LC. This was another first for me, a Bank of Upper Canada half penny bank token. It is not in the best shape but the date is readable, 1857. So, two firsts in the final moments made the hunt....this is what keeps you going in the dry spells of this hobby.
