I find that it was an oyster saloon restaurant at 174 Gravier St. (in New Orleans) between 1859-1866 (haven't found the full range of years yet). During this time Hugh Cassidy was the proprietor.
There is a known $5 token from them, but I couldn't find reference to yours.

Crawford & Farber's LA Tokens book lists the $5 one as nhbenz said. They state that the $5 one is in B. P. Wright's book as #146. And, "M. H. Cassidy operated the Cassidy Hotel at this address in 1879. By 1892 John Hauser and Company was proprietor of a saloon by this name at the same address. Due to the high denomination it is possible this is some sort of gambling check."

Your 85¢ denomination casts a bit of doubt (in my mind) about the gambling check idea - that is an odd denomination to couple with a $5 value.

Would you be willing to have your pictures of your piece posted to TokenCatalog.com so others can perhaps contribute their thoughts on it?

To you folks who know tokens; Is "ct" common enough notation on tokens for "cents"? Or is possible that something else is meant, like 85 (count) of, say, oysters? (yuck)
