I found this copper token and have not been able to identify it(age or type). Help?? The attached picture is a rubbing of the token since I could not get a clear photo. It says Bottle Check 5 on one side and has the initials HGL on the other are raised letters not engraved.Is there anyway to find out who the company/merchant is?

A "bottle check" is a token used to pay the deposit on a bottle. This one's a maverick: no indication of location. Of course, if someone did use it to make a love token, then that information (merchant's name, address, etc.) would have been removed to prepare the token for engraving. Can't tell much from a rubbing, but if the "HGL" is raised like the lettering on, say, a penny or nickel, then it's almost certainly not a love token-- just a token struck with a merchant's or company's monogram. However, if the "HGL" is incuse (below the surface; i.e., appears to have been cut in or engraved), then it's more than likely a love token.
