This was found at an old home site two years ago. After sitting for awhile some detail has emerged. It is slighly smaller then a large cent and thinner. The side not pictured is illegible. Also coming from this site was a counterfiet large cent, a Wisconsin state CW era button and several flat buttons. Found in the Western New York area.

You can make out a tree like figure in the first photo. I have looked thru my token books and other coin books including Canadian as we find a lot of Canadian, and have not seen it yet. Looks familiar. If you look at the 6 o'clock postion in the second you can see what appears to be an 8 and either a 3 or a 5.

Sorry about the picture size. This is the first time it has done that with me. Must have done something different with the camera setting. The detail shows up better with a smaller photo.

Sometimes when I read a post a coin comes to mind, so here's a total shot in the dark.

Heres another long shot. Civil War Patriotic Token or Store Card. Looks to be a horse that would have George Washington sitting atop...1863 I believe....Maybe, just maybe....

Iron Patch

Looked at those very coins. Could not find one to fit the detail. Also the lettering doesn't match.

jgas

I did think about a CW coin but have not found it. Only have one book on the subject.

Was hoping someone would look at it and say "I know what that is!"

Not familiar with coffee tokens.

Very tough. From what I see in the picture I question if it's even a tree and not something else like a sheaf of wheat etc.. So many coins with similar designs, that probably won't be an easy one, probably just a lucky guess if it happens.

It probably is not a tree. But is just tree-like in shape. I did think about the wheat angle. Maybe I will try to and make a line drawing of what shows up in good light.

Taken not stirred. In the process for a few more shots.

My first thought was the Boquet Sou coins as well--even before I saw IP's reply.

I strongly suspect that it is one of these--there are Many varieties of these out there.

The other factor that leads me to the same conclusion is that the ones of these we find down here are worn smooth and in poor shape. I am convinced that they used poor quality materials to make these coins in the 1830s, which might account for your coin's condition.

Try looking at the horse on CW Patriotic Token 175/232A in Kanzingers guide. Maybe you have that catalog. The horse is quite similar but might be too small. Although there are a ton of these tokens. I am trying to find the catalog that my friend has about them, it shows all the pics of the tokens. Give me some time, I will find the site....Unless of course you figured it out and its not what I think. Which is could totally happen :tongue3: jgas
