My dad found this, there doesn't seem to be a lot of detail left. May be too toasted to tell what it is. Has a 10 and looks like a star. Any help greatly appreciated guys!!
With that rim, it almost looks like a coin cell battery. (?)
That said, I've never seen one with just a number 10 on it.
On the off chance this is a coin-cell....
The numbers on a coin cell battery usually provide its dimensions.
For example, a "CR2032" coin cell battery measures 20mm diameter x 3.2mm high (thus, "2032")
The letters indicate the battery chemistry.
"CR" stands for Manganese Dioxide Lithium, are more common and are usually less expensive.
Less common but still seen in stores, there are also "BR"2032's, which use a different chemistry (Poly-carbonmonofluoride Lithium).
The choice of which battery chemistry is best depends upon tradeoffs inherent to the intended application (temperature, high current, stable voltage over lifetime, etc...).
The 2032 is perhaps the most common coin cell battery, and therefore, least expensive given its wide availability.
However, they are still a rip-off in most big-box stores.
A single 2032 battery will cost you $0.29 at Digikey.com (Part# P189-ND for a Panasonic brand, Part# N189-ND for Energizer $0.34 each)
That same exact Energizer battery will cost you $12.96 for a four-pack at Lowes ($3.24 each, or nearly 1000% mark-up!)
And at Target stores, it depends:
You can get a 2-pack for $2.99 ($1.50 each), a 4-pack for $12.99 ($3.24 each), or a 6-pack for $5.79 ($0.96 each).
