I found this Japanese token in a coin lot. It is the same on both sides. What do the characters translate as and what is/was it used for? I have been told that the last 4 characters on the top mean "center" in Katakana.

I'm unfamilar with these but it looks more coin like, than token.

It does look like a coin, but the word "Center" wouldn't really have a place on a coin. Also, it is identical on both sides. What mystifies me is why would a token be so worn.

The Japanese printed money to be used when they conquered the U.S. during WW2! Perhaps they also minted coin that was used or they intended to use, in areas they conquered.
