Another one of these was found in the following link, but the question wasn't answered of "what sort of store?": http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/325251-1800-s-school-token-wheatie-ring.html
So I looked further and found that by 1910 Dave McDonnell was then Former president of the Retail Liquor Merchants, so I added Liquor to my search and found this;

which pretty much confirms that it's from a saloon (the Junction Saloon) and likely a bit before 1910, but how much earlier? I don't know.

If anyone had good information regarding the date that this advertising piece was from it might help establish when this saloon was in business; MECHANICAL TRADE CARD, COMIC, KANSAS CITY SALOON, (04/12/2011)

Second thought: this ad may be later?, given that it has a 4 digit phone # on it. Perhaps the name of this name of the saloon came along after these tokens were made?

The last city directory listing I find is from 1914: Dave McDonnell - Propr Junction Saloon - basement 9th and Main and Delaware. 1906 is the earliest with that same listing. He does not show in the 1915 directory - Prohibition was definitely on the horizon, if not in effect in KCMO by then.

The 1900 directory has him and his saloon at 1631 Genesee.

The 1901, 02 & 03 directories have different-sounding addresses, but they probably are the same: David McDonnell, Jr. - saloon - Delaware ne cor 9th

Look at a map of the area and the three streets do intersect. Google StreetView shows a parking lot there today.

Thank you for the information. I live in Kansas City so I will check with the Kansas City Library to see if I can come up with some more stuff. Thank you again.
